Faultless Embrace

Day 9

We challenge you today to write a poem in which something big and something small come together.

For some reason this challenge got me thinking of the first time a mother meets their child.

I didn’t know such happiness could be felt,

with all the damage that through my life I had been dealt.

I so big, compared to her small fragile body,

needing so much love and so much protection.

And yet in her small frame so much perfection.

As soon as I saw her I knew I’d love her forever

because she herself was a treasure.

With her, in my arms, everything felt right,

life seemed bright and there was a new reason to fight.

Eyes of the Future

Day 8

I was busy with school assignments yesterday so it’s safe to say I forgot to do day 7, so, on to day 8.

Write poems in which mysterious and magical things occur. Your poem could take the form of a spell, for example, or simply describe an event that can’t be understood literally. Feel free to incorporate crystal balls, fauns, lightning storms, or whatever seems fierce and free and strange.

She looked into her crystals trying to determine her own fate,

but it always seemed to change at an incomprehensible rate.

She wanted more than anything to know it would end,

if she would find that perfect love or have a good friend.

She craved to know if there was more for her life,

if anyone would ever be by her side.

But her crystals never gave her the answers that she sought,

and her efforts were always more for naught.

Shattered Soul

Day 6

Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem that stretches your comfort zone with line breaks. That could be a poem with very long lines or very short lines. Or a poem that blends the two.

I have never liked something about short poems, so that’s how I decided to embrace this challenge.

He was a broken soul,

damaged by actions.

Unknowing how to control reactions.

He once trusted wholeheartedly,

but at the most important moment turned cowardly.

He let go of all the good that could be,

because in his mind, he could no longer trust nobody.

Dark Soother

Day 5

For today I decided to outsource instead of using NaPoWriMo’s prompt.

Challenge: Write a poem using all of the following words: smooth, soothe, work, dark.

She was a smooth work of art.

Her mind seemed to soothe my soul

and I just wanted more.

I was addicted to her dark patterns,

never concerned about the things that could happen after.

Her perfection was the best ecstasy you could possibly hope for.

Always being left with the desire to explore.

She was broken and twisted in the most flawless way.

Which made want to always stay.

She may not have been your typical kind of perfect,

but that’s exactly what made it al correct.

The Head Start Advantage

Day 4

Today’s challenge was a little too much for me, however, when they mentioned talking about justice in the challenge, I thought that was something I might be up for.

It’s funny how you and I stem from the same ground,

how you and I were both made and bound.

In different places, in different moments, yet still in the same generation.

You and I grew from nothing into something.

We fought for what we have, we worked hard to be where we are at.

But you fought just a little less harder, you had to go just through a little fewer disasters.

Because even though you and I were born on the same day and age, we don’t have the same race.

Or we don’t express ourselves the same face to face.

We both work hard to get ahead, but I never had a parent who took the first step.

No one knows who I am; no one knows who my parents are and were, no one cares if we get heard.

Sure we both work hard, sure we both fight for what we want,

Yet the truth is we both know from the beginning you had a head start.

But unlike you, I don’t need the help of my forefathers to be set apart.

Countless Headings One Story

Day 3

Today, we challenge you to try this out yourself by writing a list poem in which all the items are made-up names. If band names don’t inspire, how about a list of titles for romantic novels? Or new television cop dramas?

I thought today’s challenge was going to be quite difficult, but I actually found it very entertaining and pretty easy. Not sure if this counts as a poem but it sure is a list. Of course, as a hopeless romantic I chose to feature titles of romantic novels. Some novels by Jane Austen, Colleen Hoover, and Renée Carlino, as well as Micalea Smeltzer and one novel by Jasinda Wilder which is in my ever growing to be read pile.

I was his Pride and Prejudice. Meanwhile, he thought he was Finding Cinderella. Never Never was this true. For it was Too Late, to long he had been Losing Hope. But I kept Falling Under Before We Were Strangers. Maybe Someday, we too could have our November 9 and our Rae of Sunshine. Hopefully, we would never reach our Point of Retreat and would be Slammed by more than just a Sweet Thing. I would Swear On This Life a million times that this was more than just Sense and Sensibility, and our true undying love would never be; Without Merit.

Dear Silent Observer

Day 2

We’d like to challenge you to write a poem that plays with voice. For example, you might try writing a stanza that recounts something in the first-person, followed by a stanza recounting the same incident in the second-person, followed by a stanza that treats the incident from a third-person point of view. Or you might try a poem in the form of a dialogue.

I don’t think I have ever done a dialogue or voice poem, at least not consciously, so bear with me.

I’ve tried to tell you I need freedom and I need love.

I’ve tried to tell you I need something more from above.

Have I not begged and pleaded for something,

for anything; maybe small or a little kind,

something I can finally call mine.

Again and again, I have asked patiently but I’ve also asked stubbornly.

Because patience dwindles; but heartaches, those never cease.

Even if the carriers are calling out for peace.

I don’t know if you’re there or if you even care,

Maybe in your eyes, this all seems fair.

But I am calling out for mercy,

One I might not even deserve,

But no soul alone can sustain so much hurt.

If you are there here my plea,

I implore, set my soul free.

Paranoia

NaPoWriMo has officially started for all you poets and aspiring poets this is the perfect time to try and create some new work.

If you’d like to know a little more about what NaPoWriMo is here is a link to the official page:  http://www.napowrimo.net/

And now for today’s writing prompt.

Day 1

We challenge you to write a poem that is based on a secret shame or a secret pleasure.

__crazy_thoughts_and_stuff___by_youngie90

Image via: https://youngie90.deviantart.com/art/crazy-thoughts-and-stuff-97955818

I can’t control the thoughts inside my head

and my paranoia is making me toss and turn in my bed.

I have awful dreams of how I lose you time and time again to someone new.

Just the thought of losing you constantly leaves me blue.

The more I try to keep the thoughts at bay,

the fewer demons I seem to slay.

My fear has become my secret shame.

Fear of never hearing your sweet voice,

of being devoured by silent noise.

Fear of never seeing your perfect silhouette,

and living forevermore in a stormy upset.

In secret, my mind fabricates how our lives can become untwined,

and my constant terror; is losing what I once thought, would be forever.

There

I waited a while to post my last poem for NaPoWriMo, I got stuck for a while and just wanted my next poem to be something with meaning for me. So after more than a month here it is.

Day 30

song_of_freedom.jpg Image: https://www.google.com/imghp

I’ve been waiting; who knows how long. It’s been years it’s been centuries. Of fears and lost memories. Of the inability to just be me, to be free. And I’ve been searching for ways to say what I feel, trying to make sure that what I was living was real. That my mind hadn’t tried to create a better world to escape from my torture but failed in the attempt and made it all rupture. I hate to be one to complain, and see the world so dark is a shame; especially when there’s so much death, hunger and strife. And though complaining may seem wrong sometimes it just seems right. I’ve been told my whole life that the answer is no, that I can’t be who I choose, that I can’t do the things I do. That I can’t go the places I go and still follow the norm. That I can’t dribble a ball and be expected to be treated like a girl who wears heels. That I expect too much, that my dreams are far-fetched. Small minded individuals that never let me be; that don’t like to see others free. And many times I’m alone and confused and it’s something I refuse. Not to be alone, that’s something that I choose. But to be confused about the path I take, to just sit and wait for the answers from fate. I’m impatient, but I get the importance of time but I like to see the results of the small climb, the little steps that take you there; closer to the answer of your perfect where. A lot of people understand so little of me, a lot of people try to hold me back because my personality is too strong and my ideas are set in stone and for this, I walk alone. Yet not alone enough that I feel free; because many are still chasing me. But I’m so close, so close to the freedom that I seek, a freedom where I can just be unique.

Personal Narcotics

Day 29

 Image: https://www.google.com/imghp

I’m on the brink of salvation, dying of starvation. And you what sustains me, so far but so close. One minute you’re gone, the other you’re here. Dying to come forward but held back by fear. Letting the voices your decisions steer, always watching the rear. And I keep dying while you keep making your mind. Leaving no peace to find. The drug I never need but always choose and I’m so scared to lose. Addicted to a substance so real, I’m waiting for its magic to commence and my soul to heal. This deal has to seal, but then again you can always melt steel. Under fire, we transform, either to a better or a worse form. We are the ones you choose to reform or deform.
