Day 29 – Forbidden Tanka

Day 29- Briefly research a poetic form of your choice and write a poem according to the rules of that particular form.

It is euphoric.

Bloodstream flowing rapidly

Heart pounding fiercely.

With a mindset to get caught.

Living on the edge, one shot.

Day 19 – Sweep Away

Day 19- Imagine yourself doing any household task/chore, then write a poem using what you’ve imagined as an extended metaphor for writing.

Sweep it all away.

Don’t let anything stay.

Sweep the gray.

It’s the perfect way.

Let the dirt pay.

Should have never lain.

I will make it weigh.

It may be wrong, it may be right,

I’ll do it anyway.

This will be the last day.

I’m sorry if I have to betray.

I can no longer delay.

You’re an eternal pain.

I can no longer let you display.

I will sweep you away.

Day 18 – My Grim Reaper

Day 18 – Write a poem without any end rhyme, only internal rhyme.

The feeling came over me once again dark, menacing, treating.

Coming in from behind when I least expect it.

Creeping like a dark shadow wouldn’t leave me alone.

Dragging me through the dirt taking me to my own tomb.

Tried to get back up and always kicked me down.

Live life with a constant frown.

Don’t know where to go now.

Feel people watching me like hawks, someone new trying to make me balk.

Finding anything they might gain.

Playing me like a simple game.

They want to use me; here they come.

I better start to run.

Run for my life while I still have a chance.

Tangle me in a never-ending dance.

They fight to make me a slave of their own filthy desire.

Can’t burn the mistakes with the purest fire.

If I count, I won’t survive.

Cause none of them will let me thrive.

I’ll fight for my life so I won’t feel used.

Day 17 -Perception Rhyme Royal

Day 17- Write a poem that employs a rhyme scheme.

In the absence of my mind, I dwell.

Trying to figure out where to head from here.

Pondering what is wrong and what is swell.

I can feel that nagging thought in the rear.

This is starting to become severe.

I try to make sense of my situation.

But I never seem to have the right perception.

Day 14- Attempt at a Bad Poem

Day 14 – Write a bad poem, make it as lousy as you can, do everything wrong, let yourself be awful.

So she ran after him and cried out, but he didn’t turn around.

She was in agony, until she found harmony.

Now she’s free, helping others believe.

I guess that’s when she reached me.

But I didn’t want to be set free.

She told me it was time to let go that I deserved more.

So I finally reasoned and was set free of what was chaining me up and now I can help others like she helped me, that’s our ministry.

Many times I still get scared but I have friends that are there.

I know I will make it through because I’m guiding others too.

I’m not sure if that’s what I’m supposed to do.

But it seems like the best option at the moment.

Day 10 – Burning Red

Day 10- Pick a one-line song lyric to serve as an epigraph to your poem. Then, write the poem to accompany it.
But loving him was red. Oh, red. Burning red.-Taylor Swift

But loving him was red. Oh, red. Burning red.

Red with the energy of an explosion in a newborn war.

Red bordering on the extreme, never afraid to dream.

Red that empowers and gives the strength to move on.

Red filled with passion and desire.

Red as the intensity of a roaring fire.

Red increasing my respiration and blood pressure.

Red that takes me on a new crazy adventure.

Day 9 – Mutated

Day 9- Quickly jot down four verbs, four adjectives, and four nouns. Write a poem using all 12 words.
Run, Skip, Eat, Tackle.
Beautiful,Hideous,Menacing,Red
Home, Soul, Body, Picture

My heart still skips a beat when you run towards me.

But your beautiful soul quickly turns menacing.

You eat me up and tear my body apart.

Tackle me to the ground won’t let me make a sound.

This clear picture, is turning dark red, scare me to death.

There no longer is a decent home, just the hideous remains of a broken throne.

My once pink love has turned pitch black and I won’t let you come back.

Death is,
so unwelcome,
yet it freely roams. Cruel.
Devouring all with, no regret.
Bad bet.
