Day 20 – On this day

Day 20- Write a narrative poem detailing a specific childhood memory.

He looked me in the eye.

I tried to look away but something would not let me.

“When did you stop loving me?” he said.

Sadden by his question yet laughter in my throat.

My mind wandering, this seems like a scene from a movie,

a famous screenwriter once wrote.

I focus back, the sadness in his eyes making me want to go home.

Many times I thought about how I deserved to be alone.

A good one has broken and it isn’t fair.

I was always supposed to be there.

To treat him right, be his morning light.

Now I’ll be the reason he can’t sleep at night.

“It’s not that I don’t love you, I always will.

Yet my heart only lives for the moment and the trill.

I’m sorry to say for this reason I have to let you go.

Because one day I know you won’t be able to take no more.”
